Hey all, Just wanted to post a quick character sketch I worked up for a film/graphic novel project I'm a part of called ADRIFT. I'm working with the fantastically talented gentlemen Mr. Will Tully and Mr. Joel Austin. It's been a blast thus far and I'll be spilling more beans on the project in the coming days. For now though we must wait for the elders to conclude their discussion about things most unusual... Thanks all and talk with ya soon! - D P.S. Today's post is dedicated to friend Jess Wolfert, critiquer extraordinaire and fine maker-of-tacos & other tasty dishes. Ladies and gents... TONIGHT is the night. Steve, Jesse, and my comic HAUNTED has now been published online at Top Shelf Publishing's website TOP SHELF 2.0! If you'd like to check out our 12 page suspense-driven ghost story you can click with eerie delight right HERE! Thanks all, hope you enjoy it, and be sure let us know what you think! - D Good evening all! Found out just the other day from the grand mack-daddy of writing Mr. Steve Ekstrom that our second comic book together titled HAUNTED will be making it's debut from the mighty Top Shelf Publishing! And to be exact, it's being published online at Top Shelf 2.0 this October 25th! Just in time for All Hallows Eve. We've been shopping it around for a little bit now and to have it picked up by these good ladies and gents is a beautiful, beautiful thing. HAUNTED is a 12 page tale of eerie suspense written by Steve Ekstrom (author of BREAKFAST), penciled & inked by moi, and colored by the extremely talented Jesse Turnbull. Jesse and I went to college together at ye ole' MICA, where he studied under the exquisite colorist and gentleman Mr. Jose Villarrubia. It was great working with these fella's and I hope to do so more in the near future. Here's a brief synopsis from the Ekstrom himself. He describes HAUNTED as... “a suspenseful ghost story about trust and how people perceive the truth. Steve is a troubled young man who decides to divulge a dark, lifelong secret to Samantha. She wants to believe his story; but, does Steve’s frightening revelation illuminate a dark corner of his past or is he casting shadowy aspersions on their somewhat tenuous relationship?" AND for those that don't know Top Shelf has published a SLEW of awesomeness. Ranging from Alan Moore & Eddie Campbell's FROM HELL, to Nate Powell's Swallow Me Whole, to Andy Runton's Owly, to the newly released B.B. Wolf and the Three LP's by JD Arnold & Rich Koslowski (which I just picked up at the New York Comic Con last weekend and it's incredible. ALL should check it out. Seriously). Included right here are a few panels from HAUNTED and as soon as time allows I'll most certainly upload a few of the actual pages in the Sequential Art section of my website. In the meantime you can check out the always enjoyable Top Shelf 2.0 right HERE! Thanks folks and I'll be back in a few days! Until then... happy October! - D This past Sunday was PLB Comics release party at Illusions and I have say, good times were certainly had. Comics, talking about about comics, sketching, pizza, and little teeny tiny delicious cupcakes (seriously they were like the size of a quarter). Can't get too much better than that. AND while we were there reporters Erin Traylor & Adrienne Price from The Flyer, Salisbury University's newspaper, came by and interviewed the local comic company. Pretty sweet, right? Here's a photo from the paper with the PLB fella's, as well as a shot my mug. If you'd like to read the full article on PLB check out all the goodness right here... Thanks again to the PLB crew for having me out! Just wanted to let you all know I've been asked by the great fellas of PLB Comics to join in on their release party! They'll be debuting they're latest issue, The Fall: Vengeance and Justice this Sunday, September 26 from 1-4pm at Illusions Games & Comics. There'll be plenty of comics, signings of such comics, portfolios of artwork, sketches sketched on-the-spot, and a drawing for two full-color prints. Craziness! Good times for certain! I've even heard rumors of a cage match in the parking lot (though that part may not be true... but you never know). Also, I'll be signing copies of my own comics, magazines, prints, and artwork. So stop by this Sunday for all the fun and possibly action-induced festivities! The address is below and if you're on the Facebook you can check out more info right here... Illusions Games & Comics 726 S. Salisbury Blvd # D Salisbury, MD 21801-5867 (410) 742-0172 As a little teaser for the Baltimore Comic Con this weekend I wanted to throw up the brand spankin' NEW cover for Sam Costello's and my comic, Termites in Your Smile; which was penciled, inked, colored, and lettered by moi. Thanks all and see you at the show! Good day folks, Well, the date is rapidly arriving! The Phantom: Double Shot - KGB Noir #4 is slated for a June 16th release! It'll be hitting stands nationally this coming Wednesday (and perhaps "internationally" at another time I'm not aware of? Sorry to the peoples of various other countries). AND along with this I wanted to post the brand NEW cover for the comic (also, by Mr. Dennis Calero). Ya know, that way ya's know whatcha's lookin' for. Later, Doug p.s. my name's on the cover too. Cool! Alright folks, As promised here are a few various panels from my upcoming comic, The Phantom Double Shot - KGB Noir #4 from Moonstone Comics. Mine being a smooth-talkin' back-up story of the illustrious Captain Action. Written by one Mr. Jai Nitz and illustrated by Mr. Myself. And I'll be sure to keep you all in the know on it's release date, as well as any dangerous news that strolls on by. Hey hey everyone! Just wanted to make the BIG announcement of my latest comic book project. I'm illustrating the back-up story for The Phantom: Double Shot - KGB Noir #4 for Moonstone Comics (quite the mouth-full, right?) and yes indeed I'm quite stoked about it! To give you the rundown on it, it's an 8 page story based upon one of Moonstone's flagship characters, Captain Action, and is written by the very talented Mr. Jai Nitz (writer of many a fine tale ranging from X-Men Unlimited to The Batman Strikes! to El Diablo onto his latest project Kato: Origins) with covers illustrated by Dennis Calero (X-Factor, X-Men: NOIR, Star Trek: The Next Generation and so on) AND edited by the fine and dandy Mr. Joe Gentile. Ah yes, and I almost forgot, it's penciled and inked by... yours truly. Why am I so excited? Aside from getting to work with the fella's listed above KGB Noir also marks my 3rd nationally published comic (sweet!) and a big thanks goes to Joe for bringing me into the fold on this one. Another is that it's illustrated purely in black & white which for an artist like myself (who loves the B&W) it's a chance to make each page drip with as much NOIR as possible. And yet another reason is that, well, I just had a great time working on it! Here's a brief description of the comic as per Comixology.com... "A special noir mini-series starring The Phantom with tectonic tie-in tales featuring Moonstone Books' best and brightest stars! Deep in the bowels of Madeira Island, the Ghost Who Walks feels the Hammer Strike! And then, Captain Action is caught between Salavdoran ex-cops and a Russian Spetsnaz team, while a woman from his dad's past stirs things up!" As for it's big release date, I'm told it should be hitting stands next month in May sometime. But I shall be certain to keep you all informed of the exact date as soon as I know of it. AND as an extra bonus of fun I'll have sample panels posted very soon! Later! |
